Kim started dancing in Chicago, IL at the age of three. She instantly began to love Ballet & had a desire to learn at a very young age. She continued to study Ballet, Tap, Jazz, & Lyrical throughout her elementary years. At the age of ten, she also began to study gymnastics with an emphasis on floor exercise. Using all the skills learned from dance, Kim was competing on a gymnastics team throughout high school. As she performed in dance recitals, musical theatre, charity programs & Chicago events, she continually studied by attending several Chicago based schools. By the time she was sixteen, she was a teacher’s assistant & began to enjoy helping others. She enjoyed learning from master teachers. She attended the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters for five years. During her college years, she taught part time as her training continued at Harper College & Northern IL University. She spent a summer in New York training at notable schools, such as Steps On Broadway, & continued to travel to N.Y. every summer for Dance Teacher Conventions as well. After college graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Don in 1990. He was prepared for a life of dance after years of attending several Ballets & dance shows she performed in & choreographed.
Kim taught at four different studios in the Midwest, choreographed for Jazz USA Champion Youth, and directed the local Park District Dance program, church summer camps & charity events. During this time, she managed to have two baby boys (Austin & Cameron). When they were 1 & 2 1/2 years old, Don & Kim packed them up & moved to Orange County, CA in 1996. Kim began teaching for two top studios in O.C. It was always a joy for her to watch her students grow & develop a love for dance. Her goal is to bring out the very best in each individual student. She also worked with one studio’s dance theatre program & choreographed the dance routines for three of their Musicals. She continued to attend dance conventions & studied in Los Angeles while still traveling back to Chicago.
During this time, Kim grew very sick with the life threatening heart condition she was born with. Even though this illness prevented several performing opportunities throughout her life, the condition she dealt with never stopped her completely. She was able to find a Doctor in Los Angeles who performed experimental surgery on her in October 1997. Everything turned out great & Kim thanks God for choosing to save her life! She certainly kept busy by having another baby (Mariah) in August 1998. Before she could catch her breath, she had another baby (Kasydee) in September 2000. All the while, continuing to teach dance with one child strapped to her back, one in a playpen & a couple others running around. As Kim’s children have been growing up at the dance studio, they have all become dancers & students who enjoy learning as well.
After nine years in California, Kim, Don & the kids packed it up & moved to Surprise, AZ in 2006. They opened “A Time To Dance Performing Arts Studio” in July 2006. It is now their prayer, passion & desire to have a family based studio that will offer a friendly, fun & professional place for families to receive a dance education. In August 2006 Kim continued her education in New York by attending the annual Dance Teacher’s Conference with master choreographers such as Mia Michaels, Debbi Dee, Bob Rizzo, Gregg Russell, Cathy Roe, Lyn Kramer & several others.
As Kim begins her 4th year as the Director of ATTD, she is very proud of all her students & staff for the many accomplishments achieved including- Our Award Winning Dance Teams & participating in special events such as the Relay for Life, Fiesta Bowl Parade & Surprise County Fair. As of July 2009, ATTD Studio has grown into a new building which now includes 3 dance rooms. Kim is SO excited to positively impact the lives of our students by providing the opportunity to DANCE!
